Summer 2019 Finance Technology Intern

Department/Product Overview:

Finance Technology department is part of the global technology organization at Dow Jones. This department supports & maintains enterprise finance applications used by the global finance business community. In addition to BAU activities, the team also implements strategic projects. We are now in the middle of implementing a finance transformation project (Project Atlas) to replace PeopleSoft Financials ERP system with SAP S/4HANA Financials system. The design and build phase is complete and we have started integration testing. This is the largest technology project being undertaken by Dow Jones in 2019 and the planned launch date is July 1, 2019. We are looking to hire a summer intern to help us in building a Reporting/Analytics solution to deliver critical reports for our Finance function. The position is located at Princeton, NJ.

The intern will work with Dow Jones as well as our Project Atlas implementation partners - Deloitte & Infosys in the Reporting workstream, with the goal of learning and building some of the reports needed by our key business areas.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Assist in gathering report requirements by process area & work with the key stakeholders in documenting the same.

  • Learn and modify standard SAP reports, database views or build new reports using SAP and other industry reporting/analytics tools.

  • Working with the business stakeholders to create test cases and ensure the delivered solutions are working as designed.


  • Entering senior year in a 4 year undergraduate program from a reputed school

  • Majoring in Computer Science with some software programming knowledge

  • Some work experience in software development and or reporting

  • Basic knowledge of finance functions like accounting, budgeting & forecasting, etc

Preferred Tools/Skills:

  • Conversant with databases and data structures

  • Familiarity with SQL statements and table joins

  • Reporting technologies like Business Objects, Tableau, Cognos, etc
