Job Description:

The Wall Street Journal is looking for an editor to oversee the newsroom’s internship program. The senior editor for internships will be responsible for recruiting, developing and managing the Journal’s robust intern program globally.

You will work closely with the Assistant Managing Editor for Talent, the rest of the WSJ talent team and other senior editors to ensure that the internship program meets its educational objectives and provides value to the newsroom. You will help ensure that the intern class is diverse and that the experience is inclusive and welcoming. We are looking for someone who is committed to the Journal and our mission and who can serve as an ambassador for our values.

You will:

  • Recruit, interview and onboard the interns.

  • Publicize and promote the program. Represent the Journal at conferences, colleges/universities and career fairs

  • Mentor and advise newsroom interns and ensure they have a positive and educational experience.

  • Evaluate the cadence and assignments for the interns and make recommendations on potential adjustments to further improve the program.

  • Manage the intern budget and tracking of both potential candidates and former interns.

  • Collaborate with the AME, Training & Outreach, on intern training and mentorship, conference attendance and strategic university partnerships.

  • Build trusted relationships with universities, professors and student-oriented groups.

  • Assist the newsroom talent team with general recruitment efforts, particularly for entry-level positions.

What we are looking for:

  • Several years of experience in journalism and, ideally, experience with newsroom internship programs.

  • A passion for journalism, mentorship and education. A background in journalism training or teaching is a big plus.

  • Strong communication and people skills.

  • Excellent presentation skills and ability to represent the best of the Journal’s core attributes at speaking engagements, recruiting events and internal training.

  • Critical thinking and diplomatic problem-solving skills.

  • An inclination toward action: setting agendas, managing projects, change management.

You will be based in New York and report to the AME, Talent.
